The current demand for Vietnam Investor DT visa is increasing as today, with strong development of Vietnam economy, Vietnam is attracting more and more investors establishing or expanding their businesses within the country.

This article is dedicated to provide everything you need to know about Vietnam Investor DT visa.

What is Vietnam investor visa?

According to the Law No. 47/2014/QH13 on foreigners’ entry into, exit from, transit through and residence in Vietnam, the Investor (DT) visa for Vietnam is a type of visa granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.

And now, according to the new Immigration Law No. Law No. 51/2019/QH14 amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law No. 47/2014/QH13, Vietnam Investor Law No. 51/2019/QH14 amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law No. 47/2014/QH13 on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam Investor Visa is categorized into:

  • ĐT1 – to be granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with capital contribution of at least VND100 billion, or investing in the business fields and areas of investment incentives decided by the Vietnam Government. Valid for up to 5 years.
  • ĐT2 – to be granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with capital contribution of VND50 – under VND100 billion, or investing in the business fields of investment encouragement decided by the Vietnam Government. Valid for up to 3 years.
  • ĐT3 – to be granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with capital contribution of VND3 – under VND50 billion. Valid for up to 3 years.
  • ĐT4 – to be granted to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with capital contribution of less than VND3 billion. Valid for up to 12 months.

Investors coming to Vietnam can:

  • Apply a Vietnam temporary card which is valid for up to 10 years.
  • Extend the Vietnam visa following this visa extension instruction.

How to apply Vietnam Investor visa?

The procedure to get a DT visa for Vietnam depends on where you apply for it, in Vietnam or in a foreign country.

Apply DT visa in Vietnam

If you are already in Vietnam and wish to obtain a DT visa, you should follow this procedure:

Step 1: Prepare required documents:

The dossiers to apply for an Investor visa for Vietnam shall include:

  • Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate/ Investment Registration Certificate;
  • Certificate of seal specimen registration or a notice on the publication of information on seal specimen of the enterprise on the national enterprise registration portal;
  • Form NA16 – Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the enterprise operating in Vietnam;
  • Form NA5 – Application for visa, visa extension, extension of stay for foreigners in Vietnam;
  • Original valid passport;
  • Temporary residence registration form as prescribed;

Step 2: Submit the documents to Immigration Department office of Vietnam

You or your agent will need to submit the prepared documents to the Office of Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang or the Immigration Management sections of the police offices of the provinces/city where your company is based.

After around 05 working days from submission of full documents, you will receive your Investor visa for Vietnam stamped on passport.

Apply Vietnam Investor Visa at office of Vietnam embassy/consulate

To get it this way, the applicant need to follow the 03 steps below:

Step 1: Prepare required documents for DT visa application:

You will need to prepare the following documents:

  • Original passport
  • Form NA5 – Application for visa, visa extension, extension of stay for foreigners in Vietnam;
  • Temporary residence registration form as prescribed;
  • Proof of legal status as prescribed by Vietnam’s law (in case you are foreign investors):
  • Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate/ Investment Certificate;
  • Certificate of seal specimen registration or a notice on the publication of information on seal specimen of the enterprise on the national enterprise registration portal;
  • Form NA16 – Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the enterprise operating in Vietnam;

Step 2: Submit the DT visa application dossiers to the embassy/consulate of Vietnam

After preparing full documents as required, you will submit the documents directly to the embassy/consulate of Vietnam in your country and pay for the visa fee.

After the dossier receiving staff check the documents and verify they are valid and enough, you will pay the visa letter fee and get the appointment letter for result pickup. The processing time by the embassy/consulate is often 5 – 7 working days.

Step 3: Receive the result

On the appointed date, you will travel back to the Vietnam embassy/consulate to receive the visa result and your original passport or you will receive it by post upon your request at time of application submission.

Apply Vietnam Investor Visa on arrival

To get visa this way, you are required to travel to Vietnam by air for visa stamping at Vietnam airport. And your sponsoring company and you need to follow the steps below:

Step 1: Prepare documents to apply for Vietnam investor visa:

A staff of your company in Vietnam need to prepare the following documents:

  • Photo of your passport
  • Form NA5 – Application for visa, visa extension, extension of stay for foreigners in Vietnam;
  • Temporary residence registration form as prescribed;
  • Proof of legal status as prescribed by Vietnam’s law (in case you are foreign investors):
  • Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate/ Investment Certificate;
  • Certificate of seal specimen registration or a notice on the publication of information on seal specimen of the enterprise on the national enterprise registration portal;
  • Form NA16 – Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the enterprise operating in Vietnam;

Step 2: Obtain Vietnam visa approval letter from the Immigration Department

Your company’s staff in Vietnam will then need to submit the documents prepared as mentioned above to the office of Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City to get a visa approval letter.

After the dossier receiving staff check the documents and verify they are valid and enough, your company’s staff will pay the visa letter fee and get the appointment letter.

On the appointed date, your company’s staff will travel back to the office of Vietnam Immigration Department to get the visa approval letter.

They will need to scan this letter and send to your email.

Note: Your company can also ask a visa agent like us for assistance. We will submit those documents to the Vietnam Immigration Department on their behalf and then send them the colored scan of your visa approval letter.

Step 3: Get visa stamped upon arrival at Vietnam airport

After getting scan of the visa approval letter, you will print it out, complete the Vietnamese visa application form (formerly known as Entry and Exit Form which can be downloaded here).

And then, you bring those documents, together with 02 passport-sized photos and stamping fee and finally get visa stamped at VOA/Landing visa at Vietnam airport.
