Vietnam Visa guide for Indian citizens

Many Indians have come to Vietnam recently with different purposes, from leisure travel, business, to visiting relatives. Currently, Vietnam does not have a visa exemption policy for Indians holding ordinary passports. There are three ways to apply for a visa to enter Vietnam:

  1. Apply for an entry visa at the Vietnamese Embassy in India
  2. Access to the government website for e-visa application
  3. Apply for a visa to enter Vietnam at the airport (Vietnam visa on arrival)

1.Apply for an entry visa at the Vietnamese Embassy in India

If you are currently in India, you can go directly to the Vietnamese Embassy in India to apply for a visa to enter Vietnam.

You need to bring your passport or your identity papers (which is valid for at least for six months from the expiration of the required visa) and submit together with your photos and the visa application.

The process usually takes 4-5 working day (longer than the online process). When receiving your application, they will stamp on your visa and give your passport back.

2. Access to the government website for e-visa application

India is among 80 countries approved to apply for Vietnam’s e-Visa through Vietnam’s government website.

Term and conditions:

  • Duration: 30 days, single entry.
  • Purpose: travel, business.
  • Place of entry: airports, border gates of land and seaports.

To apply for an electronic visa, please follow our simple steps

  2. Complete personal information in the form and follow the instructions

You will be charged a fee of 25USD and will not be refunded if the application is not processed.

3. Apply for a visa to enter Vietnam at the airport (Vietnam visa on arrival)

This is totally an online process, all you need is a computer or smartphone with the internet connection. This is Indian’s favourite choice because it is cheaper and more convenient for those who live far away from the Vietnam embassy. Besides, the registration progress is quite fast. You will receive the Visa confirmation via your email after 1 or 2 working days. You can apply visa here. The company which you register online with will work with the Immigration Department to help you get a Vietnam Visa.

Term and conditions:

  • Tourist visa: valid for one month or three months
  • Commercial visa: valid for one month, three months, six months or 1 year
  • Place of entry: only applicable when entering Vietnam at the airport.

How to get a Vietnam visa on arrival?

First, fill out the Vietnam visa application on the visa agency website. They will send you an approval letter via your email within 2 working days (normal service) or 4 – 8 hours (emergency service) after paying the service fee. The visa service charges are different from each company but the service fees are fixed on the website without hidden charges, surcharges. When receiving the approval letter, you need to print it out and bring it when travelling to Vietnam.

Second, you need to prepare 2 latest photos for your Visa.

Finally, before starting your trip, you should prepare some US dollars to pay the stamp fee (you can check on the company’s website for the fee details). Collect all the papers above and bring with you get Vietnamese visas stamp at Vietnam airport.

However, the disadvantages when applying for Vietnam visa on arrival is that you have to wait in line at the airport when you come to Vietnam to pay the stamp fee. And please remember that the Vietnam Visa on arrival only applies to those whose travelling to Vietnam by air.

Travellers are permitted to enter Vietnam at any five international airports like Noi Bai – Hanoi, Cat Bi – Hai Phong, Da Nang – Da Nang, Cam Ranh – Khanh Hoa, and Tan Son Nhat – Ho Chi Minh City.
